Michael McCabe - Lead Teacher, Advisor
After spending 3.5 years at UW-Madison, Michael McCabe transferred to UW-Oshkosh to complete his studies and pursue a career as a teacher. While at UWO, he met his wife, and began spending time tinkering with ideas about educating students in small groups. Many of Michael's thoughts regarding small schools are grounded in his own high school experiences.
Michael was born in Iowa and raised throughout Wisconsin. He attended 3rd - 9th grade in the Wisconsin Rapids Area School District, and attended Barneveld High School for 10th - 12th grade. His experiences going from a large school in Wisconsin Rapids (1900 students) to a school of only 120 students impacted him in ways he would not realize until he started teaching.
Michael McCabe holds his Masters of Science in Education - Special Education from UW-Oshkosh. He also has his Alternative Education licensure (952 add on) from UW-Milwaukee. The most rewarding professional experience for Mr. McCabe thus far was writing the planning grant for Kornerstone and watching an idea transform into a school.
Michael loves basketball. While finishing his undergraduate degree, he began coaching middle school basketball. Michael has been coaching basketball at Kimberly High School since the 2007-08 season. He has served as the Head JV Boys' Basketball Coach since 2008-09. He is also an Assistant Boys' Track Coach under Steve Jones. Michael's greatest feeling of accomplishment as a coach was being a part of the first FVA Boys' Conference Track & Field Championship in 2010.
