Employability Traits

The Big 5 + 2
What skills are most important for job success when hiring a high school graduate?

Work Ethic 80%
Collaboration 75%
Good Communication 70%
Social Responsibility 63%
Critical Thinking & Problem Solving 58%

(Dr. David Brewer, National DCDT Conference, Milwaukee, WI, October 2008.)

In the design of Kornerstone School, the planning team came across another example of the Employability skills being important. UW-Madison adopted a secondary “soft-skills” transcript to assess students in the School of Business.

One other important note, students must attend Kornerstone School for at least three years in order to receive a diploma. Students in Kornerstone School will not receive traditional grades; however, they will strive towards mastery of the Big 5 Employability Traits.

Diploma

Students in Kornerstone School earn credits based on hours spent working on projects and engaging in seminars. The current credit structure is being created and rolled out as the Common Core Standards are implemented nation wide.
